MICHAEL TENEZACA

“PHENOTYPIC MARKER”

Each iris has unique textures, patterns and colors. Just like a fingerprint, each iris is one of a kind, no two are alike.

To capture the intricate detail of an iris, I mounted two, high-output micro-LED optical probes to my camera, secured my camera above a prone subject, and photographed sections of the surface of their eye with a 90MM macro lens and a high resolution digital sensor. I took the resulting eight exposures and manually stitched them together using digital tools to create one final image.

This process allowed me to discover that an iris is not just a feature of human anatomy but an entire landscape in and of itself.
