This is for the women who have been left alone after, the women who didn't quite understand what happened until later, the women who did not know how to make it stop because they were scared. The women who were too young to say anything, the women that physically could not fight back, the women taken advantage of, drugged, tricked and manipulated.
This is our proof. This is for the version of ourselves left behind in the sheets. For every woman who can see herself within these stains.
ABOUT
MariaElena Kalas is New York based artist, photographer, and creative director. Recently she exhibited “The bathroom project”, at the Museum at FIT, an immersive experience, shown in FIT’s main lobby in November 2023 as well as at the Ava Gallery in Soho New York. Kalas has also exhibited “Bendicion Nana, Bendicion Nano, Dios te bendiga Nena.” in AM:PM Gallery’s Latin Heritage Exhibition in Brooklyn New York 2024. In her work, Kalas allows the viewer to question their own life experience. To think deeper on the human experience, and to reflect on their own lives.
